In a day excursion Egyptologist Huub Pragt will guide you through the Kings Valley and the Queens Valley. The Kings Valley was the principal burial place of the major royal figures of the New Kingdom, as well as a number of privileged nobles. The royal tombs are decorated with scenes from cosmological treatises like the Litany of Ra, Amduat and Book of Gates. The last two describe the realm in which the boat of the sun god Ra traverses during the twelve hours of the night. They give clues as to the beliefs and funerary rituals of the New Kingdom. Almost all of the tombs were deliberately opened at the beginning of the Third Intermediate Period. Still they give an idea of the opulence and power of the Pharaohs that once were interred. We will visit three royal tombs. The highlight will be our extra visit to KV17 of Seti I.
After a hot lunch in the garden of guest house Marsam we will continue our excursion by visiting the Valley of the Queens, including the magnificent decorated tomb QV66 of queen Nefertari. We will start our program at 8 am and we will be back at 5 pm. There is a return transportation by touring car in front of the Nile Valley Hotel on the West bank of Luxor.
